I saw the full moon against the tip of a spruce tree, and at the very top of our tallest cottonwood.
Water striders, or water skippers, or pond skaters, are common on ponds and spring puddles.
The reflective surface of the pond makes for an interesting tangle of legs and angles, made even more interesting when you notice what looks like one bug is actually two, most likely a mating pair.
No matter how slowly I move, no matter how low I crouch, or how carefully I crawl through the grasses, the creatures on the pond are the most incredibly alert, aware, and quick to flee. I will keep trying to get close enough for a clear and detailed photo of the several different beautiful and amazing creatures I have seen.
