Blue shadows
The snow will be melting, the sun is warmer. But for now there are still a lot of long blue shadows on the white snow.
Night time in the woods
Blizzard
This morning we are back to winter. The wind is howling, snow is falling and blowing and sticking to trees, and covering tracks and paths. The temperature is only -2°, so it is not terribly cold, but walking through the deep snow leaning into that north wind is definitely true winter.
Thawing
More photos of yesterday’s thaw…there is a blizzard forecast for tonight.
Thaw begins
Chickadee
Tangled vines
Bittersweet vines.
Poplar buds
A few days ago, when it still went down to -28° F at night, I went for a walk in the morning sunshine. I was surprised by the poplar buds beginning to open on some high branches. The sun is getting warmer.
Colour in winter
Red osier dogwood. The stems of last year’s berries.
