I was walking in the pasture when I saw a bit of yellow on a wormwood plant. Now I know the wormwood, which we call stink weed, does not have yellow flowers. Was it a clump of dandelion petals, I wondered, but how would they have detached?
I put a finger near, and it moved.
Probably a Goldenrod Crab Spider, Misumena Vatia.
They catch their prey with the help of their long front legs and not with the help of a web. They can sit still for days, even weeks, waiting for their prey.
When I zoomed in, I was a little grossed out. Spiders are not my favourite. But the exotic colouring made me keep snapping the shutter.
